One of the first things you’ll hear when you start trying to “make money on the Internet” is the term “set it and forget it”. In other words, setup a site, create content, build traffic to it and then let it set to make money passively. However, when you are dealing with WordPress sites, its NEVER set it and forget it. Because if you do that, you’ll be hacked. New updates to installed plugins, theme updates, and updates to WordPress itself MUST be installed to prevent hackers from taking over your site and causing havoc. I don’t mean to be pessimistic but I’ve built enough sites to know if you don’t keep updated, you will become a victim of a hacker.

Unfortunately, not everyone will log into their wordpress sites on a daily or even regular basis, so they don’t know if there is a update waiting for them. However, if there was a way to be emailed when an update became available, this would solve the problem.

Luckily, there is a great plugin called Mail on Update that solves this issue. It has an English, German, and French version. The plugin will check If a new version is available, then send an email to the  WordPress-Admin informing them which plugins needs to be updated. The plugin can be set to send to multiple recipients as well.

When an update is detected, the admin receives an email similar to:

– Installed: 2.2.2, Current: 2.2.3

Update your Plugins at
http://www.domain.com/wp-admin/plugins.php

Then you just need to click on the link, login, and update the theme, plugin, or core WordPress files, and you’ll be up-to-date and safe from vulnerability hackers.
